Is there a basis for a good default threshold for GMM EM?

I'm working on developing GMMs using EM for image segmentation on a gray scale data, but I'm having a hard time finding a good source for a default EM convergence threshold to use. Does anyone have a good source or know of a good rule of thumb be that might depend on dimensions or something else for choosing appropriate log-likelihood thresholds?
