What's a cool way to get experience as a student in a field like machine learning?

I'm currently a second year computer sci/neuroscience double-major at a good school with a good GPA. You guys know of any cool opportunities for computational neuroscience, artificial intelligence, or neurotechnology research?

Also, the weirder the topic, the better. T-hanks:)
