Interdisciplinary applications of machine learning

I would like to know in which areas of other disciplines machine learning is used. I heard ML is used in bio-informatics and nueroscience. Are there any other fields like these which you think can benefit from machine learning in the next 10 years. I am particularly interested to know how a undergrad with machine learning exposure can contribute in these other fields while doing Phd.
