Mining sequences of events

Hi everyone, I am working right now on a problem but I don't see how to start. I have a list of events (issues) with a location information, a timestamp and a cost. And what I am trying to find, is if there's some sequence of events that leads to an important event ( i.e. huge cost ) and generate rules like : "when issue A and issue B happen, 2 months afterwards an event with huge costs happens". If this is even feasable, how would you approach this kind of problem ? And are theere resources (papers, ... ) that adresses this kind of problem ? Thanks a lot !
