Hello dear /r/machinelearning!
I am in high school with some experience in computer science, mostly in algorithms and data structures from various competitions. I've been interested in machine learning for a while, however, I only have a superficial vision of the field. We have an upcoming, mandatory, inter-disciplinary project that has to somehow fit under the subject: "The struggle for a better life". As part of presenting the overall topic, they said that "fighting to survive" is also "struggling for a better life", and thus that something in the health area would fit this.
What I'm asking you au fait machine learners, is, do you know of any good applications of machine learning in the pharmaceutical industry, health care, hospitals or do you have any other ideas for interesting applications within this subject? I figured I'd choose math and computer science as the two subjects to investigate machine learning. My initial thought was something like regression/fitting, which should be do-able to understand how works within the time frame of a few weeks with normal school on the side.
